Alpha - An Opportunity to Explore the Meaning of Life
The Alpha Course is a FREE ten-week introduction to the basics of the Christian faith. It's run by lay people, for people who want to explore what Christians believe.
Alpha gives people a chance to explore the Christian faith in a welcoming, non-pressured way - to ask anything, to question everything, and to explore together with others much like yourself. The setting is relaxed and informal, with an empahsis on friendship, fun and laughter.
Each night stares with a meal together. We then listen to an Alpha Course talk, and close out the evening with small group time to discuss the evening's topic. Dinner is at 6:00 PM and we finish promptly at 8:30 PM.
Small group time is where we really get to it - exploring what makes sense and what doesn't, asking questions of one another, and exploring what Christianity is all about through our discussions. Small group is your time to talk and to be listened to. All opinions and questions are welcomed, and we want to hear what you think and wonder about.
In Alpha, there is no pressure, no judging, and no need to participate if you only want to listen. As the weeks progress, we take on topics like:
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- How can we have faith?
- Why and how do I pray?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- How does God guide us?
- Who is the Holy Spirit?
- How can I resist evil?
- Why and how should I tell others?
- Does God heal today?
- What about the church?
Alpha is not meant to be a heavy theology course, and there is no homework. You won't be tested, grilled, judged, or pressured. Instead you will be welcomed, listened to, and befriended as we explore the claims of Christianity together.
Who should come to Alpha?
Alpha is non-denominational and is designed for you - whether you have long experience in the church or have never been in a church before. Alpha is for anyone with questions about what Christianity is all about, who wants to find meaning in life, as well as for Christians who want to refresh on the basics. Skeptics are especially welcomed at Alpha.
When you come to Alpha, you won't be pressured in any way. We don't nit-pick denominational differences, but concentrate on the things that all Christians hold to be true. This means that anyone from any background is welcomed at Alpha, and in fact it's the most fun when we have a mixture of people in an Alpha Course.
What's the Catch?
We really try to make sure there IS no catch. There's no cost, no pressure and no comittment to continue if it's not for you.
And, we are never going to pressure you to join our church or to "convert," or anything like that. If don't have a church and you should decide you want to join our church, that's great. If you go to another church, that's great. If you decide it's not the right time for you, that's also great.
When Does it Start?
We are currently putting a schedule together for our next Course. Then we hope you'll join us for the preview dinner and take Alpha for a test drive. We'll be serving the best meal you've ever had in a church. We would love to get to meet you and show you what Alpha is like. After dinner, you'll hear the first talk in the Alpha Course, titled "Is there More to Life Than This?" If you like what you see, we hope you'll come back for the next week, but there's no obligation to do so.
Why not come with a friend or two? All we ask is that you help us plan for you. Just fill out the info below and click on submit and you're all done!
